4 Reasons to Go to Bed Early

Posted by yhk on Dec 30, 2008

Why is it important to go to bed early? As the saying goes, ‘Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.’ Thinking knotch-platform-bedpractically, you cant get wealthy just by going to sleep way earlier than others or, even become wise, for that matter. So why is this proverb popular among general people and experts today? The reasons below will answer this question.

1.) Biological clock

The Human biological body clock is programmed by default to sleep around 2-3 hrs before midnight and wake-up a little before sunrise. Sleeping early ensures that your body is in tune with its natural biological timing. This gives your body the maximum rest it can take, at the best possible time. Its all about quality.

2.) Hitting the required minimum

It is recommended to sleep at least six hours everyday, seven being optimum. The required range is, therefore, fixed at 6-8 hours with 7 being the average number of hours of sleep a person should take per day. This is recommended for being healthy. Lack of sleep can cause:

  • Problems with levels of insulin in your body
  • Aging quicker that normal
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

3.) The darkness factor

Sleeping in the dark (during nights) is the best time your body can rest itself. People who work at nights and sleep during the day will testify to the fact that sleep during the day is no where near sleeping during the night, in terms of quality. I have worked at nights myself during my first job and, trust me, I felt like I did not sleep for months. I even tried blocking light from wherever it entered my bedroom, to make it as dark as possible.

Water is meant for drinking, food is meant for eating and nights are meant for sleeping. Going to sleep early ensures that you take advantage of the natural darkness this planet gives you.

4.) Get more work done

The earlier you wake up, the more time you have to do work. All that work that you probably cant even think of doing late at night like:

  • Going to the bank
  • Getting groceries
  • Spending time with kids
  • Visiting Relatives (old ones especially)
  • A day job (which you would hate to do at night)
  • Watering your plants

Imagine how life would seem busy on a weekend if you spend the first half of daylight in bed, and then rush to do everything on your list in the second half. By the time you get home, its already dark. You’ve probably missed a few things on your list too.

Its pretty simple. You are going to spend around one third of your life sleeping. You have to choose where you want to put those hours in your life’s routine. You can either place them where it is best for your mind and body, and when you have no real work (atleast for 99% of the people); Or you can choose to place it where you are going to get less healthier and will miss out on potentially productive hours. The choice is yours.
