6 Reasons to Buy a Yamaha R15
Posted by yhk on Jun 12, 2009
I thought Obair (my elder bro) was kidding when he said he wanted to buy an R15 that very day. He might have given it a good thought. After all, it is a big ticket purchase. So anyways, we go together to Ramkot (the used bikes bazaar) and have a really hard time spotting one. We managed to find one in r
ed with scratches all over and a dent on its fuel tank.
Also, that morning, Obair saw a used R15 listing online and contacted the owner. This guy calls us up when we were at Ramkot. His was a blue one, and eventually Obair decided to go in for it. I must say, it was very well maintained. The bike is amazing, and here are a few reasons why you should probably buy this monster.
1.) Amazing Looks:
It is the best looking bike in its category, and easily outshines any bikes that came before it in the Indian market (of course keeping the Hayabusa and R1s out of the picture…we’re talking common man here). The moment you ride it, you know you are riding something awesome and amazing!
2.) Powerful Engine:
It has a 4 valve engine (Pulsar 220 has got only 2). This makes it much superior to any of its competitors. 17 BHP packed into a 150 cc liquid cooled engine which ensures a smooth and power packed ride.
3.) Quality 6-speed Gearbox:
A six speed gearbox makes it stand out. On the average indian streets, you might just be able to reach the fifth gear. Our LML Adreno boasted of a 5 speed gearbox back in the old days when 4 was the norm. The fifth gear for Adreno, however, was no different from the fourth. Just a formality I guess. The R15′s gearbox is not just numbers. You feel the power and the speed increse with every shift…enough to give you a massive adrenaline rush.
4.) Price (used ones)
I believe that paying for a brand new one can be avoided, since you can easily find one in excellent condition (R15 owners are usually bike lovers, and take good care of thier machines). Unless you are filthy rich and buying this baby is like buying candy, don’t go in for a new one. You can save an easy Rs 30K with some patience. (Warning: you might not get the colour you always wanted)
5.) The Attention
This is for all those who crave attention and regulary get into the attention seeking behaviour mode. Believe me, this bike turns heads like crazy. I rode an Adreno when it launched, a CBZ, Puslar Dtsi and all those facny bikes that were launced. Though they all manage to get some sort of attention after a throttle or two, it is effortless with an R15.
6.) No Kickstart
That’s right! No kicking and getting cramped thighs. It has self start as the only option to turn it on, so no more old fashioned kicking on a traffic signal embarrasement.
============
To sum it all up, the R15 is a great comeback from this company after the Libero and Fazer disappointments. None of the competitors look remotely close to giving Yamaha a befitting reply. Yamaha Rules!
